Growth
The Ki Mobility Rogue XP Rigid Wheelchair is the ideal step-up for those around teenage ages who have outgrown paediatric chairs such as the Little Wave Clik, and need a larger chair with further growth before settling into a fixed-size adult chair such as the standard Rogue. A free growth kit allows for up to 3 inches in seat width growth, with the same amount of seat depth growth available. There are numerous other adjustments to ensure the chair provides a perfect fit for years to come, including the backrest height, seat height, centre of gravity, and footrest length. The swing-away armrests are a popular option for their flexibility - they move with the backrest when adjusting or growing the Rogue XP, and incorporate independent angle adjustment, allowing both ideal backrest and arm positioning. All this ensures that your Rogue XP will be suitable both now and for years to come.
Seating
As with every Ki Mobility chair, your Rogue XP is bespoke built following an assessment to provided a perfect fit. Seat widths of 10 - 18 inches, and depths of 10 - 20 inches are available, allowing it to fit adolescents of all shapes and sizes across a wide range of years. The new Axiom range of cushions and backrests can be supplied with the chair to provide high levels of comfort, support and pressure relief. Alternatively, third-party backrests and cushions such as the Jay and Matrx ranges can be fitted, ensuring we can always match your seating requirements. The modular nature of the Rogue, and high level of adjustability, allows fine tuning of its fit over the years, to accommodate changing sizes and needs. As on the adult Rogue, this includes patented RP Tuning technology, which is the only indexed castor adjustment system that gives a perfect alignment whatever your seat angle, allowing easy adjustment even while the chair is occupied.
Options
Much the same options as on the adult Rogue are available on the Rogue XP - this includes the industry standard selection of wheels, tyres and handrims - such as the popular Spinergys, Schwalbe Marathon Plus Evolution puncture-resistant tyres, and Natural Fit ergonomic handrims. Even the standard wheels are high quality - the new Maxx Performance spokes made from 6061 series aluminium are exceptionally durable, though the lightweight X-Core mags are a popular option being maintenance free and avoiding problems with fingers or clothing getting caught in spokes. Armrests, footrests and backrest upholstery are all configurable too from a range of options, but perhaps the most interesting option is the Dynamic 5th wheel. This new feature is ported across from the Little Wave Clik, and provides stability without restricting your movement the way traditional anti-tips do, allowing the Rogue to be set up in an active and efficient way to promote the development of wheelchair skills.
Transport
Whether you’re climbing into the driver’s seat or hitching a ride with friends, the Rogue XP is the ideal chair for travel. Featuring a double-locking backrest as standard, the quick release wheels can be popped off for a transit weight starting at a mere 5.3 kg - the compact frame will then easily fit into your car. If you wish to use your Rogue XP for occupied transport in an adapted vehicle, integrated tie-down brackets are available rather than traditional heavy bolt-on brackets, and feature a clean aesthetic that maintain the sharp look of the chair while maximising rigidity.
Style
Creative freedom is yours with the Rogue XP - it is your blank canvas, giving you the freedom to choose your frame, accent, release cable and wheel colour. Whether you're unique, chic or edgy or minimalistic, you can create your own ID. This isn't just a matter of colours though - the Rogue XP's design ethos shows throughout, with a sleek profile, and hidden adjustments giving it the appearance of a full-on custom welded chair. The frame has a sporty look, with compact angles of up to 90°, and an inset front available.
Our Verdict
The Rogue XP sits in a unique place as a high-end active user chair for adolescents. The nearest equivalent would be the Quickie Life R Teens (or folding Life F Teens) - but both are heavier entry level chairs, a long way off the 5.3 kg transport weight that the Rogue XP starts at. It offers the impressive ride and build quality of the adult Rogue, but with growth adjustability, and paediatric sizes and safety options. In our view it's the perfect chair for those around the ages of 10 - 20 who've outgrown a paediatric sized chair, who have growing yet to do, but want a high performing chair that will enable, not restrict, their lifestyle.
