Rigid Frame
The Ki Mobility Rogue 2 Wheelchair is crafted from durable 7000 series aircraft-grade aluminium, and retains the market-leading 4.8 kg transport weight of its predecessor; the lightest in its class. It features Ki's trademark oversized tubing for unrivalled rigidity and responsiveness.
New features on the Rogue 2 include redesigned castor wings positioned to minimise the chair's footprint and optimise its manoeuvrability. These lowered castor wings also aid with access to workspaces and help with transfers. A V-front frame is available - ideal for those after a sleek look that avoids the risk of your legs coming into contact with the frame. A traditional sporty tapered front is also still an option for those that prefer that look.
Transport
It shouldn't be understated just how light the Rogue 2 is - with a transport weight from just 4.8 kg, it is lighter than any other aluminium adjustable wheelchair on the market, and is even lighter than many welded or titanium chairs too! It's not just the minimised weight that makes the Rogue 2 easy to transport - the redesigned camber tube clamp features a rounded bottom, avoiding snags when lifting the chair over your body. This may be a small feature, but it demonstrates Ki's attention to detail in the design process.
With its minimalistic open frame, the Rogue takes up barely any space with the wheels popped off, and backrest locked down. We love Ki's backrest folding mechanism, which has a durability to the metal bar that other "pull string" activated backrests can never achieve.
In the event you need to use your Rogue 2 for occupied transport, it can be built with transit brackets to enable it to be safely tied-down.
Seating
Each Rogue is built to order, allowing our assessors to ensure it is set up to fit you perfectly. All aspects of the seating can be set up to your size - seat width, depth, backrest height, backrest angle, footrest height, seat taper and more. A neat addition to the Rogue 2 is the inbuilt backrest recline, which lets you sit back in a more relaxed position at the release of a latch. This is particularly handy when switching between self-propelled use and powered add-ons that change the angle your chair is at.
Unique to Ki chairs, there is the option for adjustable seat depth - while this is not needed for most people, for those whose conditions might change and therefore potentially require a more specialist backrest in the future, this provides the "space" to fit one, avoiding the risk of having to replace your whole wheelchair.
Of course, these kinds of backrests can be provided from the start if needed - Ki's Axiom range are popular, providing additional support while also matching the style of your chair. However, we can also fit other backrests and cushions from our extensive range of suppliers, such as Spex, Jay, FormAlign, Roho and more, allowing the Rogue to cater to more complex seating requirements.
A key feature of the Rogue 2 is that despite being a high-performance active chair, it retains a large degree of adjustability that you don't get in a welded chair. This allows for fine-tuning of the fit, as well as accommodating changing preferences as time goes on - ensuring your Rogue remains suitable for years to come.
Customisation
It's not just the seating of the Rogue 2 that is personalised to your preferences - all the functional elements of the chair are too, including wheels, handrims, brakes, and sideguards. Particular highlights are Ki's standard Maxx Performance Spokes - lightweight and stylish all-black wheels that mimic the appearance and performance of premium Spinergy wheels at no additional cost! New user-activated anti-tips allow for them to be easily flipped out of the way when not needed, or folded discreetly away when transporting the chair.
The look of your Rogue 2 is fully customisable too - there is a choice of 12 gloss frame colours, 9 matte colours, and even hydrographics. Our particular favourites are the deep matte colours such as navy, emerald and burgundy that give a distinctive refined look, although the flashy gloss colours are a popular choice for those after a bold look. You can set off your colour choice with a selection of anodised accents to either complement or contrast your frame colour.
What is also notable is that it is possible to get the Rogue 2 with premium all-black components (including castor and rear wheels plus handrims) without an upcharge, which is rare.
Our Verdict
We loved the original Rogue, and while the Rogue 2 is not revolutionarily different, it features several refinements that make it a better chair truly at the pinnacle of its class. If you're looking for a modern, lightweight and high-end adjustable chair, the Rogue 2 is our pick. We nonetheless recommend trying several models to ensure you find the one that suits you best, and ones to try alongside it are Quickie's equivalent Nitrum and Progeo's Joker and Joker R2. None are quite as light as the Rogue, but each has their own unique features to recommend them.
If the Rogue 2 is out of your budget, the lower cost Rogue ALX is designed for those after a more entry-level chair, and is particularly aimed at first-time users. However, the Rogue 2 itself is a popular choice for those new to active chairs who want a higher performance model. Its adjustability means it is just as suitable for new wheelchair users as experienced ones.
A final note is that Ki typically have the quickest build times for their chairs, usually running at 2-3 weeks, compared to the 4-5 (or more!) weeks of other manufacturers. If you want your chair quickly, the Rogue 2 is usually a great option for this.
