Progeo Exelle Vario Wheelchair

Progeo's Exelle Vario is a compact and elegantly designed folding wheelchair, benefiting from swing-away legrests for easier transfers. It is fully customisable, able to be built to your size with a range of colours and options.

Product Description

Folding Frame

The Progeo Exelle Vario Wheelchair features a simple folding mechanism that will be familiar to those that have used folding wheelchairs before. However, the unique shape of the reinforced cross-brace does provide advantages, with a stiffer feel when unfolded for a more responsive ride, plus a more compact size when folded up for transport or storage.

The Vario comes with swing-away legrests, as against the fixed front of the standard Exelle. While slightly heavier, these can be easily swung either inwards or outwards - or removed entirely - for easier transfers and access to surfaces. These legrests are available in a range of angles to cater for both those that want a more compact front, and people who require having their legs further out in front.

The frame of the Exelle Vario is aluminium as standard - providing a light wheelchair at good value. However, it is possible to upgrade to titanium instead. This stronger material also results in a lighter frame, and helps to dampen vibrations from propelling over bumpy ground.

The Exelle Vario is notable in being crash tested - not many active wheelchairs are - which allows it to be used for occupied transport in an adapted vehicle or minibus.

Personalisation

Each Exelle Vario is built to order with a wide array of options and accessories to choose from. All parts of the wheelchair can be customised, from wheels to sideguards, armrests to legrests, and push handles to handrims. This ensures that it provides the function you need from your wheelchair.

The form of the Exelle Vario isn't neglected either - it features stylish Italian curves, and can be customised with a choice of 10 frame colours and multiple accents for the rear wheels and castor forks.

Adjustability

Despite being a relatively light chair, the Exelle Vario provides the same level of adjustability as is found on more basic entry-level wheelchairs such as Quickie's Life F. This ensures that it can be modified over time to continually suit your requirements, whether that be moving the wheels to a more active profile as you develop your propelling skills, or reconfiguring the seating to adapt to changing conditions.

Our Verdict

Progeo's Exelle Vario is an impressive folding wheelchair, and sits at around the same place in the market as Ki Mobility's popular Catalyst 5. It is a big improvement over entry level models - lighter, more active and better looking - while not being too expensive. We would also recommend looking at Progeo's Tekna Advance Swing, the next model up in their range, which is lighter and has a more discreet crossbar.
