Quantum Q4 Powerchair

The Q4 is an entry-level prescriptive powerchair that offers much of the performance of the Quantum range with a lower price point. With capable and manoeuvrable mid-wheel drive base, it features the Ion seat also found on the Pride Fusion and can be upgraded to the more prescriptive TB Flex seat if required. Powered positioning functions are available, making this a cost-effective alternative to high-end fully prescriptive models.

Product Description

Power Base

Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, the Quantum Q4 Powerchair is an incredibly compact powerchair, with an overall width of just 24 inches. The advanced Mid-Wheel 6 drive system allows it to pivot on the spot for maximum manoeuvrability, while also keeping six wheels on the ground for optimum stability when used outdoors. Advanced ATX suspension complements this, and incorporates front low-impact OMNI-Casters, and a semi-independent rear caster beam. This gives a smoother journey when driven outside, cushioning the ride.

Ion seat

The Quantum Q4 features as standard the Ion seat (pictured, in black) popularised on the Pride Fusion, and it is available in either a 16 x 16 inch or 18 x 18 inch size, allowing it to comfortably fit and support most wheelchair users. While this seating system is more basic than the configurable seating options on more advanced Quantum powerchairs, it can still be fitted with powered positioning options if required.

The standard Q4 comes with fixed tilt, manual attendant-controlled recline, and swing-away hangers. If required, this can be upgraded to powered tilt, powered recline, and manual elevating leg rests, with a headrest included too. Other options include attendant controls or dual controls if needed.

TB Flex seat

Most people choose to upgrade to the TB Flex seating system (pictured - the blue, red and yellow-base wheelchairs). This provides a much more accurate fit to the wheelchair user's body shape, has far more options, as well as more comfortable cushioning.

This can be configured in seat sizes from 15" x 15" to 22" x 20". Quantum seating accessories including their range of Stealth headrests and postural supports can be fitted to the chair. Powered tilt, recline and elevating leg rests are also available.

Our Verdict

The TB Flex version of the Q4 is more expensive than the standard Ion seating, but has proven to be extremely popular. It is an entry-level prescriptive powerchair that offers most of the options of "fully prescriptive" models such as the Quickie Q500 M and Invacare TDX SP2 NB at a much lower price.

We would suggest considering it alongside Permobil's new M1, which is a modern powerchair with great outdoor performance, and the options for powered tilt and elevating leg rests.
