Permobil M1 Powerchair

Permobil's new M1 powerchair is their lowest-priced model, yet offers incredibly impressive performance. Compact and manoeuvrable, it will get you around tight spaces, while outside it has a top speed of 5 mph, and an outstanding range of 25 miles.

Product Description

Power Base

While the Permobil M1 Powerchair is the lowest-priced powerchair in Permobil's mid-wheel drive range, it is by no means a slouch. One look at the large drive wheels and chunky castor arms tells you that this is no indoor only chair. The M1 features the same proven drive unit technology as found in the M3 and F3, the unique geometry to the adjustable suspension and linear spring design resulting in a stable chassis, while the suspension dampens vibrations to provide a smooth and comfortable ride.

A 5 mph top speed comes as standard, and Permobil's advanced battery and VoltPro charger technology work together to provide an outstanding range of up to 25 miles from a single charge. The M1 is built to withstand the rigors of an active lifestlye, and is designed with an emphasis on durability and simplicity of use.

The end result is a compact powerchair just at home outside as it is indoors, where the compact chassis and mid-wheel drive allow it to turn at ease.

Seating

Permobil's M1 features a modern take on rehab seating. The sleek and open design allows the backrest frame to accommodate a wide range of solutions, from simple curved backrests up to custom options such as the Roho Agility back. The adjustable seating can accommodate postural and functional changes over time, ensuring your M1 continues to provide you with outstanding comfort and support.

The low seat height, from just 41 cm, allows you free access under tables and desks, and combines with the flip-back lockable armrests and swing-away joystick to make transfers a breeze. Together with the folding backrest and compact frame, they also make the M1 ideal for transport in a vehicle, working well with a car boot hoist.

While the M1 doesn't have the full array of powered seating functions that other Permobil chairs such as the M3 do, it still has the option for an impressive 50° power tilt. This helps with pressure redistribution, and lets you sit back in a more rested position. While swing-away legrests come as standard, the tilt combines well with the optional powered elevating centre-mount legrest, aiding circulation.

Appearance

As you would expect from a Permobil chair, the M1 features a sleek, minimalist appearance, well-designed and elegant. The matt black chassis can be complemented with a choice of six shroud colours - orange, black, green, blue, pink or red.

Our Verdict

Don't be fooled by the low price tag on the M1 - it carries all the quality you would associate with Permobil's Swedish manufacturing, and the power base packs an impressive punch. The real difference between the M1 and the more advanced chairs in Permobil's range is the seating. The M1 doesn't feature the Corpus seating system, and lacks the full range of powered seating functions found on other models. But if your seating requirements don't stretch to powered recline, lift or forward tilt, the M1 is well-worth considering, and offers great value for such a quality chair.

The closest competitor would be Quantum's Q4, which has powered tilt and recline options, but doesn't have the same level of outdoor performance, and is not such a modern design.
