The standout feature on the Pride Apex Rapid Mobility Scooter is its advanced Comfort-Trac Suspension found on both the front and rear axles. While other boot scooters have little protection against bumps in pavements, the suspension on the Apex Rapid cushions the ride for the driver, giving smooth performance. This puts it above even some larger pavement scooters in terms of the comfort it can offer the user.
The Apex Rapid manages this whilst still remaining an incredibly compact and lightweight scooter, barely heavier than the more basic Apex Lite model. The heaviest piece weighs just 16.6 kg, and the scooter can be easily dismantled into five pieces. It is also compact in size, all of which allows it to be transported in the boot of a car.
The battery can be charged on or off board, allowing the scooter to be stored in a garage, shed or car if needs be. The Apex Rapid comes with 12 Ah batteries as standard, but can be upgraded to larger 17 Ah batteries for a longer range. Given that the cost difference is marginal, we would only recommend getting the smaller batteries if the scooter is being driven shorter distances, and the person who will be dismantling it finds the 17 Ah battery box too heavy.
Other luxury features include ergonomic delta handlebars, and sleek styling available in your choice of red and blue as standard, or yellow, orange, pink and black for a small additional cost. The rotating seat offers a large weight capacity of 21.4 stone, allowing it to comfortably carry most users. The Apex Rapid comes with a decent ground clearance of 1.5 inches at the motor itself, rather than just at the mid-frame. An LED kerb light helps keep the scooter visible when necessary.
The Apex Rapid is a groundbreaking boot scooter that was the first in its class to come with front and rear suspension to ensure the comfort of the user - a feature not previously found on any other boot scooters. This gives it a much smoother ride over the bumpy pavements that are often encountered. The Apex Rapid remains extremely compact and lightweight, allowing it to be easily disassembled to fit in the back of a car for transport.
Verdict
While other boot scooters such as the TGA Zest are now available with suspension, the Apex Rapid was the first to do so, and has established itself over the last few years as a trusted, reliable and comfortable scooter that remains one of the best on the market. We would recommend also considering Pride's Go Go Endurance, which is identical to the Rapid but features a lighter lithium battery that is much easier to lift.
