Triride
Italian manufacturers Triride are rightly considered the market-leaders for handbikes, a product they specialise exclusively in. Their bikes feature their exclusive electronics and motors that they have developed themselves for their handbike models. This allows their bikes to offer a level of performance - whether that be speed, torque, power or range - above and beyond the competitors.
Each of Triride's handbikes is made to order with a range of configuration options - these are not "off the shelf" products. This ensures they can be tailored to meet your requirements, whether that be matching handlebars and controls to your hand function, tyres and batteries to achieve your lifestyle demands, or frame colours to complement your wheelchair.
Triride handbikes fit to almost every model of active wheelchair on the market, and can be easily mounted and dismounted to allow for quick switching between self-propelling and powered driving, and also to allow for simple transport in a vehicle.
Triride Light
The Triride Light Handbike is the cheapest handbike in Triride's range, ideal for those on a budget, or who won't demand quite so much from their handbike. Despite this, it is still an impressive handbike, compact and manoeuvrable enough to be used inside yet with the power to handle trips around the countryside.
Triride's Light features a 670W peak power motor, a range of up to 21.7 miles, and a choice of either the lighter and easier to turn 12 inch wheel, or a chunkier 14 inch one for an outdoor focus. A recent addition to the product is an even smaller 10 inch wheel that is lighter still, and best for those focused on indoor and city use.
Like other Triride models, the Light features programmable electronics, five speed settings, a reverse function, cruise control and an LCD display. A variety of braking options are available, as well as handlebar choices, throttle grips, and frame colours. An optional T-stand can aid with mounting and dismounting your Triride Light. A range of optional battery upgrades lets you enhance the range if further performance is desired.
Our Verdict
The Triride Light is a capable handbike, but overshadowed by the other models in Triride's range. It lacks the more sophisticated electronics found on the "Special" models, such as the best-selling Special Compact HT and Special Light, which offer much more power and torque, as well as finer control at lower speeds. If you want a handbike that really opens up the possibilities for off-roading on rougher ground, we would suggest starting with the Compact HT.
If transportability is your focus, then the Triride Folding offers the same performance and is more compact when folded. Despite this, we still consider the Light to be an option worth considering for those whose budget is limited, alongside the Empulse F55.
