The TGA Minimo Mobility Scooter can be folded in seconds using just one hand, with only the lightweight battery needing removal. Once folded, the Minimo measures 34 x 21.5 x 18 inches, making it one of the most compact scooters available. It can be stood upright to further save on space, and uniquely can be wheeled around, saving on lifting. This makes it perfect for those looking to travel with a scooter, whether by coach, air or on cruises. It is also ideal for those with limited storage space - a common problem for those in London and the south east.
Weighing 25.7 kg without batteries, it can be lifted into and out of a car. While this is a bit heavier than the weight you'd lift for a traditional boot scooter (which is normally around 15 kg per piece) many people prefer to only have to lift one piece into their car, making the process quicker and easier. The Minimo is also perfect for hoisting, with no complex disassembly required.
The Minimo comes as standard with super-lightweight Lithium Ion batteries, which weigh just 2.8 kg, to further save on weight - these are either 11.5 Ah (suitable for air travel) or 14.5 Ah (not suitable for air travel, but with a longer range).
The distinct wheel arrangement, with twin front wheels, gives the Minimo the manoeuvrability of a three-wheel scooter - including a stunning 32 inch turning radius, while the twin wheels and anti-tips ensures it doesn't have the stability issues found on some three-wheel scooters.
While lacking the amount of seat padding found on some other scooters, the Minimo does have an impressive amount of leg room, allowing it to accommodate taller users, while the 18 stone weight capacity is surprisingly high considering the nature of the scooter. The seat does not rotate, which for some people may make embarking and disembarking trickier.
Our Verdict
The Minimo is best suited to people lacking storage space either in their home or their car, or who want a scooter to regularly travel with and prefer not to have to disassemble one. It is better suited to lighter users, who will get the best performance out of it, and fit comfortably into the seat. Pride's Quest is very similar in design as well as being cheaper, but lacks the three year warranty.
The Minimo has now largely been supplanted by the newer and better-selling Minimo Plus 4, which offers improved comfort and stability, whilst remaining incredibly light and foldable.
