The scooter is essentially the same as the standard Maximo, being the same size and with the same features. The only two differences are the increased top speed of 6 mph plus a larger wheel size both at front and back - giving the Maximo Plus better performance over bumpy surfaces and improving the comfort. A step up from standard folding scooters, the Maximo Plus has a larger frame size and enhanced 21 stone weight capacity, allowing it to better cater to heavier and taller users.
The rear mono-shock suspension and large pneumatic tyres offer a smooth ride, and the seat is thickly padded. The Maximo Plus is powered by a high quality 70 amp controller, and has a powerful 270 Watt motor. If you've driven folding scooters before you won't believe the improvement in the drive experience on the Maximo Plus - it is a massive step up, and an extremely comfortable scooter to drive.
While these features offer much better performance and comfort than more basic folding scooters, the Maximo Plus doesn't have the all-round suspension or high back seat that most medium 6 or 8 mph scooters offer. We would therefore only recommend opting for it if it is essential for your scooter to fold - whether that be because of limited storage space or the need to fit it in a car.
The TGA Maximo Plus Mobility Scooter features a lightweight Lithium Ion battery that weighs just 3.3 kg, while the quick-release seat is 6.7 kg. With the seat and battery removed, the scooter weighs 32 kg - this is generally too heavy for a single person to lift, and realistically needs at least two people to do so. However, the one-lever easy folding design makes the Maximo a great scooter to use alongside a car boot hoist - saving you from doing any lifting or fiddly disassembly. The Maximo Plus folds up to a mere 97 x 60 x 55 cm, allowing it to fit in all but the very smallest of car boots.
Other features include an angle and height adjustable tiller to ensure a comfortable driving position, as well as adjustable folding armrests - ideal for side transfers, although it should be noted that the seat does not rotate. Low energy LED lights at both front and rear ensure your visibility, and the Maximo Plus has indicator lights and a wing mirror too.
Our Verdict
Most folding scooters are limited to 4 mph, so the 6 mph Maximo Plus is an unusual and relatively niche product. It's ideal for those that need their scooter to fold for easy hoisting into the back of a car, but who want to travel at faster speeds. We have also found it popular amongst people who want a faster scooter but don't have the space for one at their property unless it can fold up.
With the range being up to just 12.5 miles, those that want to make longer journeys would be better off looking at a more conventional medium 6 mph scooter such as the Vita Lite or Deluxe 2.0.
