The Progeo Mototronik Handbike features a unique mounting system compared to most handbikes, allowing it to be easily mounted and dismounted. Once affixed, it lifts your front castor wheels off the ground, allowing you to tackle rougher terrain. The hand controls mounted on the tiller provide you with power drive at the push of a button.
Two wheel sizes are available:
12" wheel with 250W motor (maximum power 750W). This is lighter, cheaper and slightly more manoeuvrable, ideal for more urban use.
14" wheel with 1000W motor (maximum power 1500W). The increased wheel size and motor power makes this the best for off-road use.
Both versions have a top speed of 7.5 mph, and a choice of lithium batteries is available - either the 5.8 Ah battery for a 15.5 mile range, or an 11.6 Ah battery with a mighty 31 mile range. An additional smaller that is flight approved is also available should you wish to travel with your Mototronik.
The standard tiller controls have a thumb lever to activate driving, and an LCD screen that displays all the info needed on your handbike's performance. Alternative controls are available, including a twist-grip throttle, and push-pull quadriplegic controls.
Other features and include cruise control for safer downhill driving and a USB charging port, and further options are available such as lights, a basket, and a mirror to aid with driving.
Our Verdict
The Mototronik has a stylish clean finish to it, as you would expect from Progeo's Italian designers. The mounting system particularly suits those who don't do standing transfers, and who therefore have the option to leave the front bar in place when switching between manual and powered use of their wheelchair.
There isn't the range of performance and control options as Triride's various models of handbikes have, but for those after a stylish powered add-on that's simple to mount, it is definitely worth trying out Progeo's Mototronik alongside the other brands of handbike we offer.
