The SmartDrive MX2+ Power Add-On can be controlled by either an Android or Apple smart watch, with gesture-activated controls, and activity-tracking technology. You can start your SmartDrive with a simple tap of your hand. It will then push you forwards, while all you have to do is steer. The SmartDrive MX2 app provides activity statistics designed to promote optimal mobility health. Alternative controls are available with the SwitchControl - with the push of a button the SmartDrive can be engaged for a burst of power, or activated in latched mode for consistent power over extended distances. A recent addition is the SpeedControl Dial attached to the front of your chair, allowing your SmartDrive to be controlled at the twist of the dial, in a similar way to Alber's Smoov One.
The SmartDrive MX2+ can be fitted to rigid, folding, tilt in space and one-arm drive chairs, with a wheel diameter of 22", 24", 25" or 26". The unit itself latches onto a discreet bracket on the cross-bar (for rigid chairs - a bracket is available to attach it to folding chairs). Once this bracket is installed, the SmartDrive can be slotted in place or removed in just seconds. Weighing just 5.7 kg, it is super-light and easy to lift.
With a range of 12.3 miles, the SmartDrive extends the distance you can travel, and can cope with hills, ramps, thick carpets and more. The OmniWheel design lets the Smart Drive start from any position, maintaining optimal traction and manoeuvrability.
Our Verdict
The SmartDrive MX2+ was the first product of its kind, and boasts some really high-tech features, such as the smart watch controls, and the OmniWheel. While there were a few early teething problems with connectivity between the original PushTracker smart watch and drive unit, these have now been fully overcome, and the SmartDrive MX2 is a reliable performer that also offers a range of control options.
The obvious competitor to the SmartDrive MX2+ is Alber's SMOOV One. We have found the SMOOV has a smoother ride experience, and can go faster. However, the SmartDrive has the advantage of not needing to align the wheel in use, is lighter, and has some higher-tech features. We really would recommend trying both products against each other to see which works best for you.
