KWK D09 Powerchair

The KWK D09 is a light, folding powerchair with customisation options including a reclining backrest, headrest and elevating legrests. These are features not normally found on folding powered wheelchairs, and allow for a higher degree of comfort on a wheelchair that is still easy to transport.

Product Description

Folding Powerchair

The KWK D09 Powerchair is a smartly-designed lightweight foldable powered wheelchair. It features an easy-fold mechanism that lets you quickly reduce it to a compact size that fits into the back of almost every car. With the light lithium battery removed, it weighs just 23.5 kg, lighter than most equivalent folding powerchairs.

The D09 has a weight capacity of 180 kg (28 stone) allowing it to carry much heavier people than will fit in most folding powerchair models.

Options

Most folding powerchairs are boxed products with no customisation options. The D09 is different in that four versions are available:

  • D09 - the standard version with 47cm seat width.

  • D09XL - with a wider 54cm seat able to cater to larger people.

  • D09C - with a reclining backrest.

  • D09D - featuring both a reclining backrest and 54cm seat width.

Further options that can be added to these are a headrest, and also swing-away elevating legrests. The swing-away legrests are particularly important, as some people cannot use a centre-mount footrest. Both the reclining backrest options and the additional headrest or elevating legrests are at an additional cost.

As well as this, all models are available in a choice of silver, red, blue or black.

Our Verdict

We added the KWK D09 to our range as a result of customer demand for folding powerchairs with more legrest and backrest options. It's a good alternative to getting a fully prescriptive model like the Esprit, which is also significantly more expensive and has a lengthy build time before becoming available.

Even if you just want a standard folding powerchair, it's well worth considering, being slightly lighter than our most popular model, Pride's iGo Plus, although it doesn't have quite the same comfort outdoors. The Quickie Q700M HD is also worth looking at if you're looking for extra weight capacity.
