Product Description

Seating

The Ultra Low Maxx seating from Motion Concepts provides high level pressure relief for those at a higher risk of skin tissue breakdown, by combining 50° of power tilt with 170° of power recline. The recline includes integrated shear reduction that means that the backrest, headrest, and accessories remain fitted in the same way regardless of the position you are in - vital, as this provides constant support for those unable to reposition themselves, as well as preventing "sliding" down the backrest, which would otherwise risk skin tissue breakdown. The greater degree of power tilt significantly reduces interface pressure in areas prone to pressure ulcers, with the combination of this and recline allowing clients to find their own individual position that works best for them. This can be adjusted to include anterior tilt, aiding transfers from the chair.

Seven different styles of legrests are available, including the LNX power centre mount that when used with tilt and recline can position your legs above heart level, facilitating a draining position to reduce swelling. In addition, it can be used to stimulate movement in the knees, helping to prevent contractures that could otherwise be caused by inactivity. Other positioning accessories include a 30 cm seat lifter that allows the wheelchair user to participate in eye-level communication, reducing strain on the neck and shoulder, as well as helping with basic daily tasks.

Four unique backrests are available with the Ultra Low Maxx seating - as well as the standard High Back, the Matrx Elite TR, Matrx PB and Matrx Elite Deep can be fitted, while Maxx Style swing-away lateral supports can be mounted too for those with trunk asymmetries requiring further postural support. The seating system is highly adjustable to precisely fit the size and needs of the powerchair user, allowing a perfect fit. Reclining armrests come as standard, either as "cantilever" style ones, or the more traditional "two post" type, depending on whether easy adjustability and flipping-back is needed, or extra durability. By reclining along with the backrest, they ensure continuous upper extremity support is provided. A range of armpads can be fitted to accommodate those with differing needs for supporting their arms and hands.

Power base

All this is provided on the outstanding TDX base, which features true centre wheel drive for outstanding manoeuvrability. Both Narrow Base and "HD" bases are available, depending on whether your focus is on indoor manoeuvrability or outdoor performance.

SureStep technology allows the casters to either lower and extend or lift and retract when traversing obstacles, while Stability Lock locks the front suspension when the user's weight shifts forward, vital for ensuring the stability of those with limited trunk control. G-Trac Technology comes as standard to reduce the need for corrective steering on uneven or sloping surfaces. An LCD screen controller comes as standard, allowing advanced control of the powerchair. Available in either 4, 6 or 8 mph, the TDX SP2 Ultra features a stylish design with a choice of shroud colours, while LED lights can be fitted if needed.

Style

The TDX range has been refreshed with a stylish new look, including a choice of 10 shroud colours and 10 wheel insert colours, given you 100 possible colour combinations for your chair.

Our verdict

The Invacare TDX2 Ultra Powerchair is significantly more expensive than the standard TDX, due to its advanced seating system and inclusive tilt and recline. It is therefore recommended specifically for those that need the high level of positioning and support provided by the Ultra Low Maxx seat, in particular those needing higher levels of pressure relief.

Its main competitors are Permobil's M5 Corpus and Dietz's Sango Advanced, which we would suggest trying alongside the Ultra to see which one best suits you.
