Invacare Action 3NG MWP Wheelchair

Invacare's Action 3 MWP is a completely unique manual wheelchair featuring six wheels for a more active main wheel position, enhanced manoeuvrability and increased stability. It also allows you to achieve 25° tilt either with a caregiver or entirely independently.

Product Description

Six-wheel design

Self-propelled manual wheelchairs are traditionally four-wheeled; small castors at the front and large rear wheels at the back. The MWP moves the large wheels forward to the middle of the wheelchair, and adds an additional two castor wheels at the back. This results in several benefits:

  • Increased stability from the rear castors compared to anti-tip wheels.

  • More ergonomic main wheel position - the large wheels are at a more natural position for self-propelling, reducing discomfort to the shoulders and requiring less energy to propel.

  • Enhanced manoeuvrability compared to a standard 4-wheel manual chair.

Despite what you might expect, the Action 3 MWP is just as compact as the standard Action 3NG - no wider than it, and no longer than an Action 3NG with anti-tips fitted.

Tilt

The Action 3 MWP can be tilted back to 25° for a resting position that provides rapid pressure relief. This tilt can either be operated by a caregiver, or the individual can "self tilt" using their wheelchair skills.

Seating and Options

Just as configurable as the standard Action 3NG, every aspect of the seating can be customised, from seat dimensions to armrests, legrests, backrests and more. The frame can also be customised in a selection of colours.

Transport

Transport of your Action 3 MWP remains easy - it can be folded up to fit into the back of a car. The total weight is 3.4 kg heavier than the Action 3NG, but the transport weight of the frame is just 11.2 kg.

Our Verdict

The Invacare Action 3NG MWP Wheelchair is a niche product - it's certainly not for everyone. But if you need an element of tilt from a transportable wheelchair, or want to be able to tilt yourself, it comes into its own. We've found the self-tilt is a little nerve-wracking the first few times you do it, and it will take some getting used to - but once you've mastered the technique (and accepted the rear castors will stop you falling backwards!) it is quick and easy to do.

It is also a good choice for those who want to do some self-propelling, but not with a fully "active" wheelchair and want a more comfortable position for the handrims without compromising on stability.
