Invacare Action 3 Junior Wheelchair

Invacare's Action 3 Junior is the go-to paediatric wheelchair. With a fresh design, it can be customised to match your child's needs, and features adjustable seat depth to adapt as your child grows.

Product Description

The Invacare Action 3 Junior Wheelchair is the market leading children's wheelchair, popular with the NHS for its versatility and cost-effectiveness. Each Action 3 is bespoke built for your child's requirements, to provide them with comfortable seating, and the functions and style they want.

Amongst the wide range of options are:

  • Propulsion - self-propelled or transit.

  • Sizing - seat width, depth and height for a perfect fit. Adjustable seat depth allows the wheelchair to accommodate your child as they grow taller.

  • Cushions - from a basic foam cushion to a range of Invacare and third-party cushions for high levels of comfort and pressure-relief.

  • Backrest - choice of upholsteries, including tension-adjustable backrests for higher levels of support, reclining backrests, folding ones, and height adjustable push handles.

  • Legrests - standard swing-away legrests at a choice of angles, elevating legrests, and one-piece footplates.

  • Armrests - removable ones and a choice of armpads.

  • Positioning accessories - headrests, lateral supports, ankle supports and Bodypoint belts.

  • Wheels - puncture resistant or solid tyres, plastic-coated handrims, different sized castor wheels.

  • Frame colours - 7 to choose from as standard, but any available at an upcharge, resulting in a wheelchair personalised to your style.

  • Spoke guards - to protect your child's fingers, in a range of funky designs.

  • Functional options - anti-tips and step tubes.

The Action 3 Junior is a light, sturdy aluminium wheelchair. Its reliable folding design allows you to easily fold it up for transport in the back of a car. Alternatively, it is fully crash tested, allowing you to use it for occupied transport in a suitably adapted vehicle.

Our Verdict

The Action 3 Junior should be the first paediatric wheelchair you consider - it is highly configurable, and comes in at a reasonable price. If your budget can stretch further, then we would suggest looking at more advanced options such as the Sunrise Medical Zippie Youngster 3, or Ki Mobility's Little Wave Clik - these have the option for seat width growth, meaning they will fit your child for longer than the Action 3. They are also more "active" wheelchairs, ideal for children who will be developing their self-propelling wheelchair skills.
