Unlike most powered handbikes, the Empulse StreetJet Handbike can be clamped to the front of your wheelchair without requiring any additional bracketry that stays on your wheelchair, courtesy of its patented one-touch clamp system. This allows for easy docking and removal, as well as the freedom to switch between powered and non-powered use without compromise. The clamping mechanism is so simple and requires so little force that it can be done even by those with limited hand function.
Two versions of the StreetJet are available:
12" wheel with 630W motor, with a tight turning circle suited to urban environments, and a shorter wheelbase, ideal for transport in the back of a car.
16" wheel with 750W motor, providing more power and a smoother ride, making it suited to driving over rougher ground.
The lithium battery provides a range of up to 31 miles on a single charge, and the precise and powerful disc brake gives you the control and precision even on tricky surfaces and in wet weather. The locking disc brake also lets you park safely without having to worry about slipping backwards.
The LCD screen provides you with vital information at a glance, and also allows cruise control to be set, allowing you to maintain your speed without using the throttle - great for long drives.
Your StreetJet can be highly personalised, with a choice of 20 fork and main frame colours, as well as a selection of accent colours for the stand, central section and clamps, and even three further cable colours! Further options for kitting out your StreetJet include front frame protectors, an LED light, luggage rack, and triple brake system.
Our Verdict
The StreetJet is similar to Rehasense's PAWS City and PAWS Cruiser in that it can clamp to your wheelchair without any additional bracketry - if that is important to you, we recommend trying both to see which suits you best. Otherwise, while Triride's handbikes are still considered the gold standard, and have an extensive range of models and personalisation options, the StreetJet is still well worth considering, and has an impressive amount of customisation available.
